
The Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development dispatched a high-level inspection team to Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, commending the council’s development initiatives under the visionary leadership of its Executive Chairman, Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo.
The team, led by Mr. Ayodele Solesi, Director of Local Government Administration, embarked on a comprehensive assessment of ongoing projects, administrative structures and service delivery across the LCDA. The visit formed part of the Ministry’s statewide monitoring exercise to ensure compliance with the THEMES+ agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
While conducting the inspection, Mr. Solesi lauded the council’s commitment to grassroots development, noting visible improvements in infrastructure, sanitation, staff welfare and community engagement. He particularly praised the council’s record-keeping, project execution and adherence to due process, describing Itire-Ikate LCDA as “a model of purposeful local governance.”
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Azeez Kelvin Lawal, Secretary to the Local Government, reaffirmed Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo’s administration’s dedication to transparency and people-centered leadership. He highlighted key achievements in road rehabilitation of seven strategic roads with one in each ward, youth, student and women empowerment, regular carting away of refuse, free medical missions, free GCE forms and revenue optimization, stressing that the council remains aligned with the State Government’s vision for sustainable rural development.
Addressing the inspection team on behalf of management, the Council Manager spoke on the cordial relationship between the political leadership and the management team, noting that the synergy has been key to smooth administration and service delivery. He also commended the professionalism of the management staff and detailed the achievements of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Odunayo, which he said have continued to positively impact the community at large.
The inspection team also interacted with Department/Unit Heads and the Chieftaincy Officer, all of whom attested to the cordial working relationship between the council leadership and community development structures.
Mr. Solesi charged the council to sustain its performance and continue to prioritize projects with direct impact on residents. He assured that the Ministry would maintain its support for councils demonstrating accountability and innovation in service delivery.
The visit concluded with a tour of completed and ongoing projects within the LCDA, as Itire-Ikate LCDA reaffirmed its commitment to delivering dividends of democracy through accountable governance, strategic partnerships, and sustained community development.
